Photography is something that most of us practice in some form or other. But for the vast majority of us most of our output consists either of holiday snaps or photos taken on a mobile.
For those people however who want to take their photography skills to the next level it is a good idea to check out FroKnowsPhoto.com which is a blog by professional photographer Jared Polin which explores his own obsession with mastering photography.
His website has been up and running since 2010, and over the last few years Jared has shared many of his secrets and also helped out budding photographers by critiquing their photos.
If someone then likes the way that Jared Polin teaches on Fro Knows Photo and wants to take their learning further then they have two main options:
- They can either purchase his “Beginner Guide DVD” set ( which is affordable) and contains over 4 hours of video instruction and other extras.
- They can embark on one of the Fro Knows Photo Boot Camps which he holds fairly regularly throughout the year. They are scheduled right now in various parts of the United States.
These run from 9am to 5pm on one-day and are limited to 25 people. He runs these in conjunction with another professional photographer, so there are always two pro’s to learn from. There is also a lot of hands-on learning at these events, so it is not simply classroom learning, it is in the field learning to help you to improve your photography.
The cost of the boot camps that Jared runs is currently (2013) $497, which clearly is a lot of money, but can be ideal for intermediate photographers who want to step up to the next level and want expert advice from two professionals about how to get there.
Beginner Guide DVD
If you aren’t sure whether you can justify that kind of expense then you should simply start off by getting his “Beginner Guide DVD” which is in any case designed to be a good grounding in all the basics that you need to know.
Try out the techniques that he suggests for at least a month and see if at the end of that time you are producing consistently better photographs as a result of the advice from the course. If you are then it may well be worth considering taking one of the boot camps and take your learning to the next level.
Even if you don’t want to buy anything the Fro Knows Photo blog has a lot to offer, with for example, a free guide to how to capture motion in low light, and literally hundreds of posts about all nuances of photographic technique.
There is also an active forum on the site which has over 50,000 posts in total, so if you have a question you need answering quickly there is likely to be someone who can help.
